Straight out of the box this pump’s burnished aluminum construction was a good indication that I’d made the right choice. After figuring out how to attach it to my bike’s Presta valves (open the valve, give it a gentle tap to bleed some air, press on the pump connector and then pull the lever up to lock in position) it took less than ten strokes to get 120psi. Very smooth, easy to read pressure gauge and the handle really is easy on your hands. Having my tires consistently pumped to their rated pressures has dramatically improved my daily rides – my tires are rock hard, but man are they fast! Big kudos to Planet Bike on this pump!

I got tired of trying to inflate the bike tires on my family’s four bikes with my hand held portable pump and bought the Planet Bike 1002-3 ALX based on price and ratings. I wasn’t disappointed.
The hots:
1) “Love Handle” – two hand grips at just shy of a 90 degree angle comfortably fit the angle your hands are at when held in front of you pushing. The handle is padded plastic that feels fine.
2) The fitting that latches onto the tire is plastic, but of beefy construction with a metal latch. I find it gets great seal on all my bike tires no problem.
3) The gauge is a real treat for me. It’s got the various tire types color coded. It was an education for me: I realized I had been chronically under inflating my bike tires for years. Inflating them to the right pressure was easy, quick, and precise. It felt great biking on the correctly inflated tires.
4) Aluminum tube looks great and inspires confidence.
Nots? Maybe all the plastic parts (handle, base, fittings) means it will not last as long. At the rate I use a bike pump and how beefy all these parts feel to me I think this will last a long long time.
All in all – the bottom line is that I was able to inflate my tires with very little effort, and in very little time, with great precision. This thing made inflating all those bike tires, if not an absolute pleasure, at least much less of a chore.

I have compared this pump to others on the market and this is a very good product. I has all the features you see on other big brand names and comes at a much lower price. I highly recommend this bicycle pump.

This summer my old Trek bike floor pump finally gave up the ghost, so I needed a new floor pump. After researching pumps for a few evenings, I decided to go with this pump … the Planet Bike 1002-3 ALX Floor Pump with Love Handle. What particularly caught my attention about this pump is that it has an automatic dual presta and schrader valve head. I have one bike with presta valves and one with schrader valves, and it was a pain to have to disassemble the head every time I wanted to inflate the other bike. The dual valve head works … I place the proper valve hole in the head onto whichever bike tire I need to inflate, flick down the locking stem, and start pumping. It really works … no muss and no fuss.
I’ve been using this pump for a couple of months now, so here are my “pros and cons”:
Pump Pros:
- Solidly constructed and fairly attractive to boot
- Automatic dual valve head that works perfectly
- Inflates my tires quickly … much more quickly than my old Trek
- Built-in, large air pressure gauge is mounted high up on the pump, so its very easy to read
- The “Love Handle” – the pumping handle is angled to fit your hands’ natural position so its more comfortable to use the pump
Pump Cons:
- I couldn’t really find any
Bottom line – I really like this pump. It feels solid, works well, and because of the versatility of the automatic dual valve head, I’m much more likely to keep my tires properly inflated because its a snap to do it. I highly recommend this bike pump.
